u17 World Champ Joe Sealey chooses Penn State

The future is bright in State College.

The #1 overall prospect in the class of 2024, Joe Sealey, has officially committed to wrestle for the Nittany Lions.

“I am so incredibly grateful to my family, friends & coaches that got me to where I am. WE ARE!!!”, exclaimed Sealey on an Instagram post announcing his commitment this afternoon.

The North Carolina product has wrestled most of his high school career at the prestigious Wyoming Seminary in Pennsylvania. It is there where Sealey earned a Prep National title among several other gold medal performances (Powerade & Beast of the East Champion). He most recently transferred to Lake Highland Prep in Florida- but has made his way back up North, re-enrolling at SEM for his Junior season.

Last summer, Sealey steamrolled his way through the 71kg freestyle bracket at the u17 World Championships in Rome. He out scored all of his foreign opponents 55-1, with 5 techs falls- earning him the Outstanding Wrestler Award.

Sealey’s dangerous demeanor may remind Penn State fans of one of the all-time greats, Bo Nickal. His willingness to take risks and continue scoring points makes for constant action and entertainment on the mat- something that will surely bring Rec Hall to it’s feet.

Sealey projects in the 157/165 range, but still has time to grow. His well-rounded style & resume fit right in - as NLWC and PSU combine to dish out NCAA and World champions, year after year.

The pipeline of potential seems to never end as the great Cael Sanderson does it again.
